Updated: Nov 15, 2019

Every farmer dreams of making more profit on their farm but very few know how to do it. Here are 4 ways to do that and the best part is, you don't have to till the ground or feed an animal to get more profit

1. Hold Training classes

With increase in the demand for practical knowledge in different fields of agriculture as new entrants get into the industry. There is a huge opportunity for farms who have considerable experience in their field to train new or interested farmers. You can hold on-farm classes or at other locations.

This is a great way to earn extra income for your farm and increase visibility of your farm too.

Training classes can cover new methods you discover or a simple DIY (do it yourself) trick or mechanized knowledge you have.

Training can be either offline or online.

2. Consulting

Consulting offers a more personalized angle than training. Here you get to share the knowledge you have with one person or another farm for a fee (usually a large one depending on your pricing). Having abundant knowledge, coupled with an innovative mindset will help you succeed in this area.

3. Direct Marketing

Selling directly to customers is a great way of adding value to your farm. While using agents, social media marketing or other online tools are good in selling your farm produce, it robs you of enriching the experience customers get when they buy your products and extra income too.

Remember, nothing beats a great customer experience.

Having publicized on-farm sales, display at farmers’ market, where customers can see where their food comes from, have conversations with you or your staff and give you feedback will build cordial customer relations and earn you money directly based on your bargaining skills.

4. Branding

One area most farmers overlook in adding value to their farm is BRANDING. The brand of your farm is how people view your farm and its products. It will determine our much they are willing to pay for your products or even it is worth buying at all.

Package your produce well, share the story of the farm, ensure the opinions about your farm are positive and more importantly let people know your farm exists and what you do.

Customers are more likely to buy from farms they know than the ones they haven’t heard anything about.

In our next post, we will be sharing some branding tips to help with this.

While a farm is meant for mainly agricultural purposes, there are other great
